NEXT WORKSHOP ON 20th - 21st May, 2013. DON'T MISS IT!
About this workshop
Educational technology in the 21st century is a fast-changing landscape and one of the key trends, as reported in the latest Horizon Report, is the explosion of tablet computing and mobile learning. Arguably, mobile learning is the future of education with the proliferation of affordable mobile devices such as smartphone and tablets. This is indeed an exciting time for 21st century educators to leverage emerging educational technology available at their disposal to facilitate and enhance students' learning and imparting the 21st century skills.
In the last few years, Apple's iPad has emerged as a powerful tool for engaging students in the classroom and for educators to produce teaching and learning resources. As the iPad continues to evolve along with other mobile media devices, the way educators teach and the way students learn will significantly change for good! However, while the iPad is brilliantly designed and easy to use, most people, including educators, are only harnessing a small fraction of the productive potential of the device. With all of the amazing apps available and the ever faster network connectivity, educators can do much more with an iPad than they can with a laptop.
Do you want to be part of this exciting learning revolution? If you do, please join me in this exciting journey and waste no time to deploy iPad in your classroom.
The aim of this workshop is to demonstrate the practical application of the Apple iPad in an educational setting. An emphasis will be given on hands-on activities and the sharing of relevant strategies in using iPad for personal productivity and for producing teaching resources.
This workshop is designed for beginners as well as for advanced users. Participants will be guided through the use of a range of applications considered essential for educators. In addition, participants will gain experience using iPads, evaluating applications (apps) for educational use and exploring strategies for teaching with this technology. Strategies that focus upon enhancing personal productivity, creativity, writing, mind-mapping, virtual whiteboards, image and video editing, audio recording and editing, online publishing, social media, and resource management will be explored.
On the first day, the instructor will start with the basic of iPad features and settings. This is basically iPad 101 for beginners. The instructor then will demonstrate, using real examples, how to leverage iPad as a tool to CREATE and PRODUCE teaching and learning materials. In the last part of the first day, the instructor will show how to optimize iPad as a tool for personal productivity.
The second day will be totally hands-on. Participants will be guided to use iPad and selected apps to produce the actual teaching/learning materials (learning object). At the end of the workshop, each participant should be able to produce at least 10 learning objects from this exercise.
For this workshop we will cover TEN categories of app that would enable you (or any educator) to leverage iPad as a useful tool for teaching. Once you have seen the ‘power’ or utility of iPad and you have acquired the ‘know-how’, I can assure you that when you look back you will say ‘How could I live without the iPad’! Unbelievable how much we can do with a thin slate of metal and shiny glass!
OK, here comes the 10 categories…
1. File management, file transfer and file storage
2. Writing, reading and annotating document (including e-book)
3. Presentation tools
4. Image editing
5. Video editing
6. Screencasting (screen recording)
